June 28 – Help Prevent the Sexual Exploitation of Girls – Girl Empowerment Special Event

Prevention of Sexual Exploitation – Girl Empowerment Special Event – Saturday, June 28th

Dear Community Partners,

The Department of Children and Family Services, Seventh Street Church, and various community organizations have linked arms to make an impact in the lives of at-risk young women who are either living in foster care, engaging in pre-delinquent/delinquent behaviors, or experiencing difficulties at home, school, and/or in the community.  We know that many of these girls are vulnerable to being sexually exploited and abused.  In fact, 80% of girls 18 and younger who have been arrested for prostitution are girls living in foster care that have fallen victim to sex trafficking.  In order to help prevent girls from being victimized, we are hosting an empowerment conference for girls that will include opportunities to discover themselves and experiences that will help them grow into successful, self-reliant young women.

To begin this journey together, we invite girls, ages 12-16 years, to participate in this wonderful event that is designed to: Empower girls to realize their strengths, talents, and skills; encourage them to work towards achieving their goals and dreams; connect them to a network of caring mentors who will support girls in overcoming adversities and help build the confidence and courage they need to grow into strong young women.  All this will begin to take place during the “Mirror Mirror Girl Project’s Young Women’s Empowerment Conference” on Saturday, June 28th, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 7th Street Church, 668 Obispo Ave, Long Beach, CA, 90814.
